BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU’s Jessica Ferguson was named SEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The senior from Houston helped the Lady Tigers to a 4-3 win over 16th-ranked Texas A&M this past Thursday by upsetting 21st-ranked Jessica Roland, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
The win over Roland was Ferguson’s second victory over a ranked opponent in five days. She also beat Tennessee’s Sabita Maharaj on March 7 in LSU’s 6-1 loss.
Ferguson is 10-6 overall in singles and 8-7 with doubles partner Marina Chiarelli. Ferguson has played No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for most of the dual season. She is not currently ranked in singles or doubles.
Ferguson and the Lady Tigers will play host to SEC action this weekend, taking on No. 15 Kentucky on Friday and No. 4 Vanderbilt on Sunday.
