BATON ROUGE — Southeastern Louisiana’s Michael Gardener and LSU’s Seimone Augustus were named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Players of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the media organization.

Gardener, a senior guard for the Lions, helped SLU to three wins during the week, including a 72-64 victory over Northwestern State in SLU’s first trip to the Southland Conference Tournament. For the week the Detroit, Mich., native averaged 24.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists. He poured in a career-high 33 points in the regular season finale at Texas-San Antonio.

Augustus, a sophomore guard for the Lady Tigers, led LSU to the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament and earned all-tournament honors by averaging 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in the two games. The Baton Rouge native scored 20 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the second-round victory over Ole Miss and turned around to pour in 22 points and grab four rebounds in the loss to eventual champion Vanderbilt in the semifinals.

This is the first time this season Gardener has received the award and the fourth time Augustus has been honored.
