BATON ROUGE –After leading the Tigers at the plate last week, junior Leigh Ann Danos was named the Louisiana Hitter of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association on Tuesday.
Danos, a junior catcher, went 4-for-9 with a team-best .444 batting average on the week as the Tigers posted a 4-1 record with a trio of wins over Mississippi State and a doubleheader split at No. 13 Tennessee. The Lafayette, La., native produced a home run, a team-best four runs batted in and scored a run, while also walking four times for a team-best .778 slugging percentage and team-high .615 on base percentage.
In the final game against Mississippi State, she went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored. At Tennessee, she knocked in the game-winning run on an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning as LSU won 2-1 and handed pitcher Monica Abbott just her second loss of the season.
She becomes the second LSU player to be named the Louisiana Hitter of the Week. Sophomore Stephanie Hill earned the first Louisiana Hitter of the Week honors of 2004 last week.
