Johnson to Join Augustus on USA World Team

Augustus and Johnson Named to AP All-SEC Teams

BATON ROUGE — Seimone Augustus and Temeka Johnson, both guards for the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was honored by the Associated Press by being named All-Southeastern Conference selections, it was announced on Monday.

Augustus, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, was named as one of five first-team members, while Johnson, a senior from New Orleans, earned second-team honors. The duo was both named to the first-team All-SEC by the coaches last week.

Augustus, who was named to the SEC All-Tournament team, leads LSU in points (18.6 ppg), rebounds (6.0 rpg) and free throw percentage (91.0) and owns one of the best field goal percentages (51.6) on the squad. She has also scored in double figures in 28 of the Lady Tigers’ 30 games, including 21 straight and reached at least 20 points in 13 games.

Johnson leads LSU in assists (7.9 apg), has the second-highest free throw percentage (81.4) and is third in scoring (12.7 ppg). She is also among the leaders in rebounds (5.1 rpg) and has a team-high seven double-doubles this season.

Joining Augustus on the first-team is Arkansas’ Shameka Christon, who was also named Player of the Year, Florida’s Vanessa Hayden, Mississippi State’s Tan White and Shyra Ely of Tennessee. Johnson is joined by Auburn’s Le’Coe Willingham, Georgia’s Christi Thomas, Ole Miss’ Armintie Price, Vanderbilt’s Jenni Benningfield and Kentucky’s Sara Potts.

LSU is the only school to have two players honored on either the first- or second-team.
