BATON ROUGE — The inaugural LSU alumni soccer game ended in a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon at the LSU Soccer Complex.

“The game was very entertaining and we had a lot of fun this weekend,” said LSU co-head coach George Fotopoulos. “It was nice to see so many of the former players in action and also see our girls get out there.”

Rachel Cohen, a senior on last season’s squad, coached the alumni team to the tie as Elizabeth Marschall, Cohen’s teammate in 2003, scored the lone goal for the alumni. Sophomore-to-be Jordan Parker dented the net for the team of current Tigers. Both goals were unassisted. The two teams played four 20-minute periods.

Bonnie Otillio, the Tigers’ goalkeeper from 1999-2001, was the goalkeeper for the alumni and recorded 11 saves while allowing just the one goal to Parker. Sophomore-to-be Heather Zurburg served as goalkeeper for the current squad and had three saves.

Notable members of the alumni team were Ashley Mitnick (1999-2002), Brenna Bech (1995-96), Shannon Miller (1995-96), and Rikki Johnson (1995-98).

The Tigers will open their spring season this Saturday when they face the Tulane Green Wave at the Westfeldt Facility in New Orleans at 1 p.m.
