KNOXVILLE Tenn. — LSU will try to rebound from a string of tough losses against No. 36 Tennessee this Sunday in their last of a six-match road stretch.
The Lady Tigers (7-4, 0-3) have shown improvement in their last matches despite playing two teams ranked second in the nation–Florida and Georgia–and a solid South Carolina team.
“I feel like the kids are competing hard,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “They are going to learn from these matches. We just have to keep working hard and fighting.”
The Lady Vols (5-7, 2-1) are led by 27th-ranked Tammy Encina and 62nd-ranked Sabita Maharaj. They swept Arkansas Friday.
The bottom of LSU’s lineup has been its strength lately, led by sophomore Lauren Seaman. Daysi Espinal and Camila Caliari won their match at No. 3 doubles Friday, LSU’s only victory of the match against Georgia. The top of LSU’s lineup has struggled since junior Amanda Mang’s injury took her out of her usual No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles positions.
“I think we’ve been improving,” Minnis said. “We just have to be ready to bounce back for Tennessee.”
