BATON ROUGE — LSU’s fourth-ranked gymnastics team will close out the regular season home schedule Friday when it welcomes Ohio State to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for a 7 p.m. dual meet.
The Tigers (9-4, 3-3 SEC) are coming off a dominating, 197.525-195.600, win over No. 18 Auburn last Friday. The Tigers’ score was the second best in school history and the best ever recorded in conference competition.
LSU, who will be eyeing its fourth straight victory, will look to all-arounder April Burkholder as it chases an unprecedented fifth consecutive team score of 197.100 or better.
Burkholder, who is ranked third nationally in the all-around, has won six straight all-around titles as well as 14 individual event crowns this season.
Ohio State (7-5-1, 0-2-1 Big Ten) is coming off a third-place finish at the Michigan State tri-meet last Saturday. The Buckeyes recorded a season best 195.950, Feb. 21, against Penn State and are averaging a 194.691 this season.
LSU is a perfect 6-0 all-time against Ohio State. The two teams last meet during the 2000 season when the Tigers defeated the Buckeyes, 192.600-190.650, at the Michigan State Invitational.
This will be the first trip to Baton Rouge for OSU as the previous six meetings between the two teams have all been at a neutral site.
Senior Day ceremonies, honoring four-year letterwinner Lindsay Beddow, will he held prior to the competition. Beddow, a team leader both in the classroom and on the floor of competition, is a three-time Academic All-American who has been one of the Tigers’ most consistent athletes on the bars and the beam during her career at LSU.
Following the Ohio State meet, LSU will close out the regular season schedule Fri., March 12, when it travels to Shreveport, La., for a meet with in-state foe Centenary at 7 p.m. in the Gold Dome.
