BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Stephanie Hill and UL-Lafayette’s Brooke Mitchell have been selected the Louisiana Softball Player of the Month, as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Tuesday.
Hill, a sophomore first baseman, leads the Tigers with a .459 batting average and .826 slugging percentage. She has also recorded 28 hits, six home runs, five doubles and 22 RBIs. From Feb. 13 through Feb. 29 she hit successfully in 15 consecutive games, setting a new LSU record and was named the Purple & Gold Challenge Most Valuable Player.
In addition, she ranks in the top 10 in the Southeastern Conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, hits, RBIs, doubles, home runs and total bases. This past weekend, she was named to the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament team after helping LSU to a 6-0 record with wins over four top 10 teams.
Mitchell has recorded a 14-1 record to start the season with a 0.35 earned run average with 195 strikeouts. The three-time Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, she has recorded five no-hitters this season including back-to-back no-no’s against Nevada. In just over 100 innings of work, she has recorded 195 strikeouts, including 12 double-figure strikeout performances, moving her into second places in the Lady Cajun career strikeout records.
In her best performance of the season, the junior came on in relief against Southeastern Louisiana to toss six innings of work, striking out 15 of the 19 batters she faced.
