BATON ROUGE — The 10th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team returns home Saturday at 1 p.m. to try to keep their record perfect against New Orleans.
A win would extend the Tigers streak to 81 consecutive victories over in-state competition, but the Privateers pose more of a challenge than many of the Tigers’ earlier opponents.
“This is the best UNO team from top-to-bottom that they’ve had in the past 10 years,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They could move into the rankings in the next poll.”
UNO beat 70th-ranked Denver in its last outing, making their overall record 3-2. They were ranked No. 75 in the first poll of the season.
The Privateers have lost the doubles point just once this season and have had big performances at all six doubles positions.
“They have a strong lineup and we are looking forward to the match,” Brown said.
LSU’s Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley moved up to 13th in the doubles rankings this week. The Tigers No. 3 doubles pair of Cory Ross and Danny Bryan entered the rankings at No. 21. Neither duo has lost a match in the dual season.
In singles, LSU’s 87th-ranked freshman Ken Skupski will try to rebound from his only loss of the dual season last weekend in the Tigers’ win over Texas.
LSU begins a four-match home stand when they host the Privateers. It will be the Tigers’ last chance to warm up for Southeastern Conference play, which begins the following weekend.
