BATON ROUGE — With the men’s tennis team moving into the top 10 this week, LSU now has five of its spring sports teams ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation, including a pair of No. 1 ranked teams in baseball and women’s track and field.
The Tiger baseball team moved to No. 1 in the nation in this week’s Collegiate Baseball poll after a three-game sweep of Jacksonville State last weekend. The Tigers, who host Texas State in a three-game set starting on Friday, are 6-1 overall.
The Lady Tiger track and field team heads into this weekend’s Southeastern Conference indoor meet ranked No. 1 in the nation, while the men’s squad is ranked No. 2 in the country according to Trackwire 25.
The Tiger tennis team jumped into the nation’s top 10 for the first time since the 2000 season after a 5-2 road win over 20th-ranked Texas. The Tigers are currently 6-0 overall and ranked No. 10 in the nation.
Finally, the Tiger gymnastics team is ranked No. 10 in the nation for the second straight poll following wins over Kentucky, Arizona and Texas Woman’s College last week.
In addition to the top 10-ranked teams, the Tigers have two other teams ranked in the nation’s top 25. The LSU softball team is 12-3 overall and ranked No. 12 in the nation in the most recent coaches poll, which was released on Tuesday. The Lady Tiger basketball team stands at 21-4 overall, in second place in the SEC, and ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press poll and No. 17 in the coaches poll.
