BATON ROUGE — For the second time in three weeks LSU’s April Burkholder was named the SEC’s Gymnast of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Burkholder scored a perfect 10.00 on the floor and won her fifth-straight all-around title in leading the Tigers to a season-high 197.375 in its win over Kentucky last Friday.
The Houston native posted four scores of 9.875 or better to tally a season-best and SEC-leading 39.800 in the all-around. Burkholder’s all-around total ranks second all-time at LSU and was just .075 off her own school record mark of 39.875.
Burkholder notched a 10.00 on the floor for the second time this season and third time in her career. She is the only athlete in LSU history to have ever recorded three perfect marks on the floor exercise.
In addition to her all-around and floor titles, Burkholder also finished first on the vault (9.950) and beam (9.975) and second on the bars (9.875).
The LSU gymnastics team returns to action Friday when it hosts No. 18 Auburn at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center beginning at 7 p.m.
