BATON ROUGE — LSU hurdler Lolo Jones was named the SEC’s Female Track Athlete of the Week it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.

It marks the fifth straight week an LSU athlete has received athlete of the week honors and the first time this season Jones has been recognized.

Jones, a senior from Des Mines, Iowa, automatically qualified to the NCAA Championships in the 60-meter hurdles at last week’s LSU Twilight. The defending national champion in the event, she won the meet title with a season-best time of 8.10.

Jones’ SEC-leading time also ranks as the second-best in the NCAA to date. Her time was also the second fastest ever clocked in Carl Maddox Fieldhouse history. It sits behind only Olympian Astia Walker’s facility record of 8.08 set in 1998.
