Former Track & Field Assistant Coach Charles Walker Dies

Track and Field Remains Nos. 1 and 2 in Latest Polls

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s men’s and women’s track and field team will enter this weekend’s SEC Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky., as two of the top ranked teams in the country. The Lady Tigers retained their No. 1 ranking for the seventh straight week and the Tigers held onto the No. 2 spot for a fifth consecutive week in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings released Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers hold a slim lead over No. 2 Nebraska with 52 points to the Cornhuskers’ 50 points. Florida (46), Texas (45) and UCLA (43) round out the top five.

The SEC has five other teams ranked among the top-25 this week as Tennessee comes in at No. 6 (35), Georgia follows in seventh (30), Arkansas is 12th (20), South Carolina is 14th (16) and Auburn is tied for 17th (11).

In the men’s standings, defending SEC and NCAA Indoor champions, Arkansas, continues its reign at the top of the standings with 76 points. LSU and Auburn complete the SEC’s sweep of the top-three spots with 48 and 39 points, respectively, while Stanford follows in fourth (37) and Michigan is fifth (23).

Other conference schools ranked among the top-25 include Florida at No. 6 (22), Georgia at No. 17 (11) and South Carolina, Tennessee and Ole Miss who are all tied for 23rd (8).

Competition from the SEC Indoor Championships will begin Friday at UK’s Nutter Fieldhouse and will run through Saturday.
