Tiger Tennis Team Leaps to No. 10 in Latest Poll

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team was ranked 10th in the nation Tuesday when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its fourth poll of the season.

The Tigers are 6-0 this season and Saturday beat 20th-ranked Texas in Austin. This is the first time the team has appeared in the top 10 since the 2000 season.

LSU began the season ranked 19th but has moved up in each of the three polls released since. They made their biggest leap in this poll, jumping five spots from their No. 15 ranking in the last one.

LSU passed up conference foes Georgia and Vanderbilt to become the third-ranked SEC team. Only Ole Miss and Florida are now ahead at No. 2 and No. 4.

The doubles team of senior Bryan Fisher and junior Jason Hazley were the highest individually ranked Tigers at No.13. Fisher and Hazley, who are undefeated in dual play, moved up 22 spots since the last poll.

Senior Cory Ross and freshman Danny Bryan, who are also undefeated in dual matches, were ranked 21st. Fisher was also ranked 23rd in doubles with freshman Ken Skupski, though they have not competed together since the fall.

In singles, Skupski was ranked was ranked 87th. His only loss of the dual season was in the Texas match to No. 51 Antonio Ruiz.

The Tigers return to Baton Rouge this Saturday to host New Orleans at 1 p.m.
