Gymnasts Look to Build Upon High Score in Tri-Meet

DENTON, Texas — LSU’s 10th-ranked gymnastics team returns to action Monday traveling to Denton, Texas, for a tri-meet with Texas Woman’s and No. 15 Arizona.

Action from Kitty Magee Arena will begin at 7 p.m.

The Tigers (6-4, 2-3 SEC) are coming off a win over SEC-foe Kentucky Friday evening, a performance that saw them post the third-best team total in school history (197.375).

It was just the sixth time in LSU history the Tigers had surpassed the 197 barrier and the first time they had ever notched back-to-back 197s, as LSU scored a 197.300 against Georgia the week before.

15th-ranked Arizona enters the meet with a 6-2-1 overall record, including a 2-2-1 mark in the Pac-10 action. The Wildcats turned in a season-high 197.300 to tie Washington last Friday at the McKale Center.

LSU holds a slim 9-8 all-time series advantage over Arizona, including a 7-3 record in a neutral arena. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season as the Wildcats defeated the Tigers, 195.425-194.875, at the season-opening Michigan State quad meet.

It will also be the second meeting of the year for LSU and Texas Woman’s. The Tigers outscored the Pioneers, 196.500-188.275, on Jan. 30, extending their all-time record against TWU to a perfect 6-0.

Texas Woman’s is 2-14 on the season and has recorded wins over both Air Force and Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Pioneers notched a season-high 192.200 at the TWU Quad Meet in late January and are averaging a 189.964 this season.

Following the tri-meet, LSU will return to SEC action, hosting No. 14 Auburn Friday night at the PMAC.
