BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 15th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team looks to get back on track Sunday when they host Mississippi State in a Southeastern Conference match-up at 2 p.m. CST in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
LSU (20-5, 8-3 SEC) lost for the first time at home Thursday night, falling 61-55 to Vanderbilt. The loss moved the Lady Tigers back into a tie for second-place in the SEC with Auburn, three games behind conference leading Tennessee.
Mississippi State (12-12, 6-5 SEC) has won five of its last six games, including a 72-62 victory over South Carolina on Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs are in a four-way tie for fourth-place in the SEC.
Seimone Augustus leads LSU into the game. The Baton Rouge native is averaging 18.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and has scored in double figures in 16 straight games. Senior guards Doneeka Hodges (15.2 ppg) and Temeka Johnson (12.2 ppg and 8.0 apg) add support for the Lady Tigers.
Tan White, a junior guard, leads MSU. She is averaging 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing and leads the conference in scoring in SEC games only.
This will be the 37th meeting between the two schools and LSU has dominated the series, leading 32-4, including 11 straight wins. The Lady Tigers have also never lost to Mississippi State in the Maravich Center in 16 tries. LSU won last year’s meeting, 77-72, on Feb. 9 in Starkville.
Following the game, LSU will play its final regular season home game by hosting Ole Miss on Thursday at 7 p.m. CST. Seniors Hodges and Johnson will be honored before the game.
