ATLANTA, Ga. — Seimone Augustus, a sophomore guard for LSU’s 15th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team, was named one of 20 finalists for the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award, it was announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club this week.
Augustus, a Baton Rouge native, leads LSU and is among the top of the Southeastern Conference in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. She is also grabbing 6.0 rebounds per contest and is shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 91.0 percent from the free throw line. Augustus has also beennamed a Top 21 candidate for the Wade Trophy and is a Wooden Award midseason Top 20 honoree.
The Naismith Board of Selectors, which includes coaches, journalists and administrators, reduced the preseason candidates down to 20 finalists. The winner of the award, the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball, will be honored in Atlanta on April 9
