BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tiger and Tiger track and field teams held steady at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings, released Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers have been ranked No. 1 each of the six weeks the poll has been published this season. They own the top spot with 52 points. Texas and Florida are not far behind, knotted at No. 2 with 49 points apiece. UCLA (43) and Nebraska (41) round out the top-five.
In the men’s standings, Arkansas holds on to the No. 1 position for the sixth straight week with 73 points, while the Tigers follow with 47 points. SEC-foe Auburn is third with 39 points, Stanford is fourth (37) and Michigan and Minnesota are tied for fifth with 23 points each.
This week LSU has 14 athletes and two relay teams ranked among the NCAA’s top-12 in their respective events, including four athletes that are ranked nationally in two events.
All-American jumpers John Moffitt and LeJuan Simon are each ranked in both the long jump and the triple jump.
Moffitt owns the No. 1 ranking in the long jump after posting a school record and NCAA-leading distance of 27-1 ? at last week’s Armory Invitational. He is also listed at No. 4 in the triple jump.
Simon is ranked No. 2 nationally in the triple jump after jumping 55-5 ? this past weekend. He is also sixth in the long jump standings.
NCAA champions Nicole Toney and Muna Lee are also ranked in two individual events.
The defending national champion in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes, Lee is currently ranked third and second in the events, respectively.
Toney has been the top-ranked women’s triple jumper each of the last six weeks. She cracked the long jump standings for the first this week at the No. 11 position.
The LSU track and field team returns to action this Friday when it hosts the LSU Twilight at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Competition will begin with the field events at 3 p.m. and continue with the running events at 6 p.m.
