BATON ROUGE — LSU will put its best record in five seasons on the line Tuesday when they play Southern Methodist in their first match away from home this season.
“They’re very good,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis of the Lady Mustangs. They have lost a couple of close matches. We have beaten them in close matches the last few years. It should be a fight.”
The Lady Tigers will own the program’s first 7-0 record since 1995 if they can beat SMU, but stiff competition awaits them. They would be trying for 8-0 had their match last Saturday against Houston not been rained out.
Jessica Ferguson has won her last five matches for the Lady Tigers at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. In her last match she beat 51st-ranked Lauren Archer.
Lauren Seaman, Camila Caliari and Daysi Espinal each still have perfect singles records in the young dual season.
LSU’s Amanda Mang and Rocio Fantilli have won their last four matches at No. 1 singles and are 4-0 overall this season.
LSU leads the overall series against SMU, 13-2. When they met last season the Lady Tigers won, 5-2.
