BATON ROUGE — LSU’s gymnastics team jumped three spots into a two-way tie for 10th in the latest national rankings released Monday.
The Tigers season-high 197.300 effort against Georgia last week, improved their season average over two-tenths of a point, to 196.250, to move them into a tie with Missouri.
The top-five shifted just slightly from a week ago as Alabama retained the No. 1 position (197.254), Georgia moved up one spot to No. 2 (197.119) and UCLA fell to No. 3 (197.104). Utah (196.846) and Florida 196.700) remain at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The Tigers are ranked in top-20 on each of the four events for the first time this season. They currently rank seventh on the floor (49.500), eighth on the vault (49.204), 17th on the bars (48.921) and 19th on the beam (48.825).
Sophomore April Burkholder and junior Annie Gagnon both improved individually in the national rankings.
Burkholder is now the SEC’s top ranked all-arounder after moving up two spots to No. 7 with a season average of 39.521. She is also ranked third on the floor (9.942), ninth on the vault (9.912) and tied for 18th on the beam (9.862).
Gagnon cracked the top-10 on the bars for the first time in her career after scoring a career-high 9.975 against the Gym Dogs. She owns a season average of 9.885.
The Tigers return to action this weekend when they welcome Kentucky to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for a 7 p.m. dual meet.
