BATON ROUGE — Temeka Johnson, a senior point guard for the 16th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 15, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Johnson helped LSU (20-4, 8-2 SEC) to victories over Arkansas on Thursday and at No. 20 Florida on Sunday. The New Orleans native came two rebounds shy of the triple double in Thursday’s victory and tied her own school record with 15 assists in the game. She also added 14 points in the 92-65 win.
Against Florida, Johnson had 17 points, six rebounds and six assists in the 91-72 win and with her fourth assist of the game, became LSU’s career leader in assists. She passed Pokey Chatman for the record and finished the game with 573 in her 82nd game of her career.
This is the second time this season Johnson has been honored by the SEC as Player of the Week, becoming the third player this season to receive the honor twice.
Johnson and the Lady Tigers begin a three-game home stand on Thursday when Vanderbilt invaded the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for a 7 p.m. CST tip.
