BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 13th-ranked gymnastics team concludes a two-meet road swing Friday when it travels to Athens, Ga., to take on No. 3 Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum. The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m. (CST).
LSU (5-3, 1-2 SEC) is coming off a season-best 196.775 performance in its win over then 13th-ranked Arkansas (196.450). The Tigers notched three scores of 49.250 or better, including a season-high 49.400 on the bars, to walk away with their first SEC win of the season.
LSU will look to all-arounder April Burkholder to lead them to their second straight conference victory Friday. Burkholder, this week’s SEC Gymnast of the Week, has won three straight all-around titles and is currently ranked third in the country on the floor exercise, eighth on the vault and ninth in the all-around.
Georgia (8-3, 4-0 SEC) is riding a four-meet win streak that has seen them average a team score of 197.232 over that period. The Gym Dogs own top- 10 rankings on each of the four individual events, including the No. 2 ranking on the floor and the No. 3 ranking on the vault.
Senior all-arounder Chelsa Byrd has paced the Gym Dog squad this season.. The five-time All-American is currently ranked seventh in the nation in the all-around with an average score of 39.537.
Following the Georgia meet, LSU returns home to host Kentucky in a dual meet, Fri., Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in the PMAC.
