BATON ROUGE — Sprinter Muna Lee and jumper LeJuan Simon were named the SEC Track and Field Athletes of the Week it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Lee was honored as the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Simon earned the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
It makes the second time this season Simon has earned the distinction as he was also recognized during the week of Jan. 26.
Simon, a senior from Houston, Texas, recorded a PR in the triple jump for the second straight week, jumping 54-6 3/4 to take home first-place honors at the United Heritage Invitational.
Simon’s mark leads both the SEC and the NCAA this season and ranks as the third-best indoor triple jump mark in LSU school history.
Lee, senior from Kansas City, Mo., automatically qualified to the NCAA Championships in her second event of the season, the 200-meter dash, winning the event in 23.43 at the United Heritage Invitational.
Lee’s time ranks as the third-best in the SEC and the fourth-best in the country to date.
Both the Tiger and Lady Tiger track and field teams return to action this weekend when they travel New York, N.Y., for the prestigious Armory Invitational, Feb. 13-14.
