BATON ROUGE — LSU’s men’s and women’s track and field teams held steady in the national track rankings this week as the Lady Tigers are No. 1 for the fifth straight week and the Tigers are ranked No. 2 for the third consecutive time, according to the Trackwire 25 polls released Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers hold a slim lead over No. 2 Texas with 61 points to the Longhorns’ 57 points. Florida (49) and Nebraska (36) follow in third and fourth, respectively, while both UCLA and Tennessee are tied for fifth with 32 points apiece.
Arkansas tops the men’s poll for the fifth week in a row with 69 points, while LSU and Auburn are knotted at the No. 2 position with 45 points each. Stanford and Texas round out the top five with 31 and 27 points, respectively.
LSU also has 16 athletes and two relay teams ranked among the Dandy Dozen, a weekly power ranking of the top 12 individuals and relay teams in each NCAA event.
LSU has three athletes ranked No. 1 in their respective events this week. John Moffitt tops the standings in the long jump and Lady Tigers Lolo Jones and Nicole Toney are No. 1 in the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump, respectively.
The LSU track and field team returns to action this weekend when it travels to New York for the Armory Invitational, Feb. 13-14.
