BATON ROUGE — Sophomore April Burkholder was named the SEC’s Gymnast of the Week it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Burkholder won her third straight all-around title en route to leading LSU to a season-high 196.775 in its win over No. 13 Arkansas last Friday.
The Houston, Texas, native compiled four scores of 9.900 or better to record an SEC season-best 39.775. Burkholder’s mark ranks as the second-best in school history and was just one-tenth of a point off her own school record mark of 39.875.
Burkholder also won three of the four individual event titles against the Gym’Backs, finishing first on the vault (9.925), beam (9.975) and floor (9.975), while also garnering runner-up honors on the bars (9.900).
Following her performance at Arkansas, Burkholder improved in the national rankings, moving to No. 3 on the floor, No. 8 on the vault, No. 9 in the all- around and No. 25 on the beam.
The LSU gymnastics team returns to action this Friday when it travels to Athens, Ga., to take on No. 3 Georgia at 6:30 p.m.
