BATON ROUGE — After scoring a season-high 196.775 to defeat Arkansas last Friday, the LSU gymnastics team improved its season average to 196.040 and moved up one spot to No. 13 in the latest national rankings released Monday.
Alabama remains at the top of the standings for the third straight week with a season average of 197.290. Defending national champion UCLA jumped one spot to No. 2 (196.987), while the Tigers’ upcoming opponent, Georgia, slipped one spot to No. 3 (196.986).
Utah is fourth with a season average of 196.945, while Iowa State and Florida are tied for fifth with identical scores of 196.660.
LSU is once again ranked on each of the four individual events. The Tigers are No. 5 on the vault for the second consecutive week (49.195) and jumped two spots to No. 6 on the floor (49.280). The Tigers are also 20th on the bars (48.835) and 24th on the beam (48.730).
Sophomore April Burkholder and junior Annie Gagnon remain as the only two Tigers ranked individually.
Burkholder jumped three spots to No. 9 in the all-around after a season-best 39.775 performance against the Gym’Backs. She is also ranked third in the country on the floor (9.940), eighth on the vault (9.910) and tied for 25th on the beam (9.855).
Gagnon moved up six spots to No. 13 in the bars standings after recording her second-straight 9.925 Friday. She owns a season average of 9.885.
The Tigers return to action this Friday when they travel to Athens, Ga., for a dual meet with No. 2 Georgia at 6:30 p.m. (CST).
