BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tiger track and field team is ranked No. 1 in the country for the fourth straight week, while the Tigers are listed at No. 2 for the second consecutive week, according to the latest Trackwire 25 polls released Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers, who top the women’s field with 67 points, hold a 12-point lead over No. 2 Texas (55). Florida follows at No. 3 (44), while Nebraska (37) and Stanford (34) round out the top five.
Arkansas, the defending NCAA champions, top the men’s standings for the fourth straight week. The Razorbacks hold a strong lead over the Tigers with 72 points to the Tigers’ 45 points. Auburn (39), Stanford (29) and Minnesota (27) all follow.
LSU also has 15 athletes and two relay teams ranked among the top-12 in their individual events this week.
Senior John Moffitt vaulted into the nation’s No. 1 position in the long jump after posting the second-best distance in the world to date (26-11), while the men’s 4×400 garnered the No. 1 ranking for the third straight week.
On the women’s side, seniors Nicole Toney and Lolo Jones also earning top billing in their signature events for the third consecutive week.
Toney sits atop the standings in the triple jump after automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the event last week, while Jones, the defending national champion in the 60-meter hurdles, is also ranked No. 1 in the event.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers return to action Saturday when they travel to Nampa, Idaho, for the Boise State-hosted United Heritage Invitational.
