Former Tiger Burnett Named Guyana’s Sportswoman of the Year

BATON ROUGE — Former LSU national champion Marian Burnett was named Guyana’s Sportswoman of the Year it was announced Monday by the National Sports Panel.

A native of Linden, Guyana, Burnett was a key contributor in the Lady Tigers’ march to a second straight NCAA Indoor Championship, finishing third in the 800 meters at the 2003 national meet.

Burnett’s success continued into the outdoor season as she won a silver medal in the 800 meters at the Pan-Am Games.
