BATON ROUGE — After scoring a 196.500 in a tri-meet victory over Centenary and Texas Woman’s last Friday, the LSU gymnastics team improved its season average by over two-tenths of a point, but remain at No. 14 in the latest national rankings released Monday.
The polls top-two teams are unchanged from a week ago, as Alabama owns the No. 1 ranking with a season average of 197.344 and Georgia follows with a 196.930 average. UCLA jumped one spot to No. 3 (196.790) and Utah dropped one position to No. 4 (196.769). Iowa State rounds out this week’s top-five with a season average of 196.737.
LSU is ranked on each of the four individual events for the second straight week. The Tigers are among the nation’s top-10 on both the vault and floor, sitting at No. 5 on the vault (49.181) and No. 8 on the floor (49.250). LSU also ranks 22nd on the bars (49.694) and 23rd on the beam (48.731).
Individually, April Burkholder and Annie Gagnon remain as the only two Tigers listed among the top-25. Burkholder climbed two spots to 12th in the all-around (39.431),while also improving to seventh on the floor (9.917) and falling one spot to eighth on the vault (9.906).
Gagnon moved up one spot, to No. 19, in the bars standings with a season average of 9.875.
The Tigers return to action this Friday when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for a dual-meet with 13th-ranked Arkansas.
