Swimming and Diving Closes Out Home Schedule With Senior Day

BATON ROUGE — Seven seniors will swim in the final home meet of their careers as the LSU swimming and diving teams host Rice and Florida State Friday and Saturday.

The LSU women will face off against Rice at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. Since Rice only has a women’s team, the LSU men will compete along with the women Saturday at noon versus Florida State.

Seven seniors will officially swim at the LSU Natatorium one last time, including captains Stephanie Smith, Chris Stanczyk and Robbie Moon. Other seniors being honored during ceremonies are Donna Leslie, Cackey Miltenberger, Neil Lowe and Evan Martinec.

Friday’s meet versus Rice will feature 16 events, beginning with the 200-yard medley relay. Saturday’s Senior Day festivities will begin at 11:45 a.m. with the meet scheduled to begin at noon.

The Lady Tigers hold a 20-2 advantage over the Owls, including a 154-107 win in Houston last year. Rice brings in four talented long course swimmers who recently qualified for the USA Swimming Spring Long Course Championships in their respective events. The Owls are coming off of a 172-103 road victory at Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 5.

The Tigers are a combined 23-18 against Florida State. The Seminole men, ranked 24th in the latest CSCAA poll, enter Saturday’s contest with an 8-3 record on the season. The 18th-ranked Florida State women are 14-2 on the season.

LSU will head to Athens, Ga. next month for the SEC Championships, Feb. 25-28.
