Tigers Post High Marks on Day One of Arkansas Invitational

Track and Field to Hold Bayou Bengal Invitational

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s track and field team will hosts its second straight home meet Friday when it welcomes 10 teams to the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse for the Bayou Bengal Invitational.

The meet will begin at 3 p.m. with the field events, running events are scheduled to follow at 6 p.m.

Competition will come almost entirely from within the state as Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe are all scheduled to compete. Rounding out the field of participants are Southern Miss, Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M.

Some key performances for LSU on Friday could come from All-Americans Lolo Jones and John Moffitt. Jones, the defending NCAA champion in the 60-meter hurdles, will be making her season debut in the event, while Moffitt will eye the NCAA automatic qualifying standard in the long jump after provisionally qualifying in the event at the season-opening Arkansas Invitational.

LSU will also compete several athletes in the throwing events. 2003 NCAA qualifiers Mallory McDonald and Katie McKeever headline the LSU squad that is scheduled to throw.

McDonald, who has already provisionally qualified to the NCAA Championships in the weight throw, will look to better her mark in the event, while McKeever will be chasing provisional standards in both the shot put and weight throw.

Following the Bayou Bengal Invitational, the LSU track and field team will hit the road, traveling to Boise, Idaho, for the United Heritage Invitational, Feb. 7.
