BATON ROUGE — LSU jumper LeJuan Simon was named the SEC’s Male Field Athlete of the Week it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Simon, a senior from Houston, Texas, provisionally qualified to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump this past weekend at the Purple Tiger Invitational.
Simon jumped 25-7 1/2 to top all collegiate competitors in the event. His mark ranks as the best in the SEC this season and ties his best indoor long jump effort since arriving at LSU.
Simon has already automatically qualified to the NCAA Championship in the triple jump. He advanced after recording an SEC-best distance of 53-9 at the season-opening Arkansas Invitational.
Simon and the LSU track and field team return to action this Friday when they host the Bayou Bengal Invitational at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Field events will begin at 3 p.m. and will be followed by the running events at 6 p.m.
