BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tiger track and field team is ranked No. 1 in the country for the third straight week, while the Tigers climbed one spot to No. 2 in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings, released Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers sit atop the field with 67 points, while Texas (51), Florida (50), Nebraska (37) and UCLA (33) follow.

The Tigers improved in the men’s poll for the third straight and are now solidly in the No. 2 slot with 42 points. They are topped only by defending national champion, Arkansas, who has been ranked No. 1 each of the first three weeks of the season. Auburn and Stanford are tied at No. 3 with 35 points apiece, while Minnesota rounds out the top five with 25 points.

In the individual event rankings, LSU has two athletes and one relay team at No. 1 this week. Senior Lolo Jones is listed as the nation’s best 60-meter hurdler, while fellow senior Nicole Toney tops the charts in the triple jump. The Tiger 4×400-meter relay is also ranked No. 1 in the men’s standings.

The LSU track and field team returns to action this Friday when it hosts the Bayou Bengal Invitational at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Field events will begin at 3 p.m. and be followed by the running events at 6 p.m.
