Four Former Tigers to Play in Super Bowl on Sunday

BATON ROUGE — LSU will be well represented in this weekend’s Super Bowl as four former Tigers will play in the game between the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers.

The Super Bowl will be televised live on CBS starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday from Reliant Stadium in Houston.

With four participants in this year’s Super Bowl, LSU ranks second to only Georgia in number of former players in the game. Georgia has five former players in the contest, while LSU, along with Colorado, UCLA, and Boston College each have four in the game.

Representing LSU at the Super Bowl will be quarterback Rohan Davey, running back Kevin Faulk, defensive lineman Jarvis Green and long snapper Brian Kinchen. All four players are members of the Patriots. Davey and Green both played under Nick Saban and helped lead the Tigers to the 2001 Southeastern Conference title.

Davey, Green, and Kinchen will all be making their first Super Bowl appearance, while Faulk was a member of the Patriots team who won the NFL title two years ago in New Orleans.

Faulk capped his career as LSU’s all-time rushing leader with 4,557 yards and 46 touchdowns from 1995-98. He also ranks first in Southeastern Conference history with 6,833 all-purpose yards. This year, Faulk rushed for 618 yards and caught 47 passes for 425 yards as the Patriots went 14-2 during the regular season.

Green, who finished his LSU career ranked fourth in school history with 20 sacks, recorded three sacks for 22-yards in losses in the Patriots win over Indianapolis two weeks ago. Davey serves as the backup quarterback for the Patriots, while Kinchen, who is the oldest member of the team at 38-years of age, handles all long snaps for New England.
