Gymnastics Vaults Up Six Spots to No. 14 in Latest Poll

BATON ROUGE — After a season-best 196.750 performance against Alabama last Friday, the LSU gymnastics team jumped six spots to No. 14 in the latest national rankings released Monday.

Alabama vaulted into the nation’s No. 1 position with a season average of 197.150. Georgia moved to No. 2 (196.837), while last week’s top-ranked Utah Utes dropped two spots to No. 3 (196.825). Florida (196.758) and Iowa State (196.725) round out the top five.

LSU is ranked on each of the four individual events for the first time this season. The Tigers top ranking comes on the vault, where they sit in the No. 6 position with a season average of 49.108. LSU is also ranked 11th on the floor (49.167), 21st on the bars (48.800) and 25th on the beam (48.567).

Sophomore April Burkholder and junior Annie Gagnon are the only Tigers ranked among the top 25 this week. Burkholder dropped one spot in the vault to No. 7 (9.917) and two spots in the all-around to No. 14 (39.375).

Gagnon is making her first appearance in the national rankings this season, sitting in a seven-way tie for 20th on the bars with a season average of 9.858.

The LSU gymnastics team returns to action this Friday when it welcomes the Centenary and Texas Woman’s to the PMAC for a 7 p.m. tri-meet.
