BATON ROUGE — The Tiger Athletic Foundation held its annual recognition reception on Sunday as the group handed out awards to several LSU student-athletes for their accomplishments on the playing field as well as the classroom.
Offensive tackle Rodney Reed earned the John Langan Memorial Scholarship Award, which goes to the LSU student-athletes who combines excellence both in the classroom, on the playing field and in the community.
Reed, who started all 14 games for LSU’s national champion football team, graduated with honors last May and is currently on pace to receive his graduate degree in accounting this spring.
Women’s golfer Devon Day, who carries a 4.0 grade point average in mass communication, was named the TAF Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while quarterback Matt Mauck earned the Male Athlete of the Year honor from the organization. Mauck, who led the Tigers to a 13-1 overall mark and the school’s first national title in football since 1958, recently graduated with a 3.7 grade point average in kinesiology.
Women’s basketball’s Seimone Augustus was named the TAF Female Athlete of the Year, while defensive tackle Chad Lavalais was recognized as the group’s Male Athlete of the Year. Augustus earned All-America status last season as a rookie leading the Lady Tigers to the SEC Tournament title and the round of eight at the NCAA Tournament. Lavalais, a consensus All-America and the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year, led an LSU defense that ranked No. 1 in the nation in both scoring and total defense.
