ATHENS, Ga. — LSU’s 12th ranked Lady Tigers basketball team will attempt to do something no other team in the school’s history could do on Sunday afternoon when they take the floor against No. 17 Georgia in Stegeman Coliseum at 4 p.m. CST. LSU will be looking for a school record 16th victory in a row.

The game will be televised live, across the nation, on ESPN2, cable channel 36 in Baton Rouge. The radio call can be heard in Baton Rouge only on 107.3 FM or across the world on the internet on www.LSUsports.net.

The other story line in entering the Southeastern Conference tilt in Lady Tigers’ head coach Sue Gunter, in her 22nd season at LSU and 40th overall will be coaching her 1,000 game in her illustrious career. She will be just the third women’s division I coach to reach the milestone, joining Texas’ Jody Conradt who is at 1,099 games and Tennessee’s Pat Summitt who will lead the Lady Vols in her 1,001 game on Saturday against Duke.

The Lady Tigers (16-2, 4-0 SEC) enter the game on the 15-game win streak and sit a half game behind Tennessee for first-place in the standings. Georgia (13-5, 2-3 SEC) has dropped three straight games and is in ninth-place in the league standings.

LSU is coming off one of the most thrilling wins in the recent school history with a 73-65 victory at Arkansas on Thursday night after trailing by 16 with 17 minutes to play in the game. Georgia lost in double overtime at Ole Miss on Thursday night.

Seimone Augustus, a sophomore guard from Baton Rouge, leads the Lady Tigers into the game. She is averaging 17.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, including 20.8 points per game in SEC play and has scored at least 20 points in each of the last three games. Doneeka Hodges is not far behind. The senior guard from New Orleans is averaging 15.1 points per game and has scoring in double digits in 11 straight games, including 10 straight 15-plus point games.

Kara Braxton leads Georgia into the game. The 6-6 junior is averaging 14.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, while 6-5 senior Christi Thomas is scoring 12.7 points and grabbing 7.8 boards per contest.

This will be the 26th meeting between the two schools. Georgia leads the series 17-8, including 9-3 in games played in Athens. LSU did win last year’s meeting 68-64 on Feb. 2 in Baton Rouge.

Following the game, LSU will take a week off before returning to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to host South Carolina on Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. in SEC action.
