BATON ROUGE — The LSU swimming and diving teams will look to make it two wins in a row Friday afternoon when the 14th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies visit the LSU Natatorium for a dual-meet at 4 p.m.
The 30-event meet will get underway with the women’s and men’s 200-yard medley relay and continue with the 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. One-meter and 3-meter diving will highlight events 15 and 26. Friday’s contest will close with the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Last Saturday, the Tigers put together an impressive performance to sweep Louisiana-Monroe. The men held off the Indians, 130-84, while the LSU women won by a score of 142-68. Several freshmen divers highlighted the afternoon, including Hali Saucier who won the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Adam Hebert and Andy Crum qualified for their first NCAA Zone Diving Regionals in finishing one and two in the 1-meter.
The Texas A&M men (5-1) are coming off of their first loss of the season, narrowly falling to fifth-ranked Florida, 152-148, in College Station. The Aggie men are a perfect 5-0 on the road this season with quality wins coming at No. 17 Pittsburgh and No. 25 Indiana. The Aggie women (5-1) also suffered their first setback, dropping a 169-128 decision to fifth-ranked Texas last weekend in Austin.
“They are very good and have great depth,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “Besides Georgia, this without question will be the biggest meet of the year.”
The LSU and Texas A&M rivalry dates back to the 1971-72 season. Since then the two programs have faced each other a combined 41 times, with the Tiger men holding an 11-9 advantage all-time. Last year, Texas A&M defeated both LSU squads in College Station.
