Lady Tigers Continue Road Swing at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — LSU’s 12th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team continue their road trip when they visit Arkansas tonight at 7 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena in a pivotal Southeastern Conference contest.

The Lady Tigers (15-2, 3-0 SEC) sit in second place in the SEC, a half a game behind first-place Tennessee, while Arkansas (13-3, 2-1 SEC) are one of three team tied for third in the standings.

LSU rides a 14-game win streak into the contest and a victory tonight would tie the school record for the longest winning streak in history. The Lady Tigers have not lost since Nov. 21 at Penn State and are coming off a 70-69 victory at Kentucky on Sunday afternoon.

Arkansas has won nine of ten games with the lone loss coming at Tennessee in the SEC opener. The Lady Razorbacks defeated South Carolina in Columbia on Sunday.

Seimone Augustus, a sophomore guard from Baton Rouge, leads the Lady Tigers. She has scored in double figures in eight straight games and is averaging 17.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, including 20.3 points per outing in the three SEC games. Senior guard Doneeka Hodges, who has reached double figures in points in 10 straight games, is scoring 15.1 points per game to accompany Augustus.

The Lady Tigers also get a boost on the bench tonight with head coach Sue Gunter returning. Gunter has missed the past four games due to illness and returns for her 999th game coached in her career and goes for career victory No. 696 tonight.

Senior forward Shameka Chiston leads Arkansas. Last week’s SEC Player of the Week is averaging 22.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, including the 31 point performance she put up in the victory at South Carolina on Sunday.

This will be the 23rd meeting between the two rivals. LSU leads the series 13-9, including two straight victories, but Arkansas leads the series 6-4 in games played in Fayetteville.

Following the game, LSU will continue its road swing and visit Athens, Ga., on Sunday for a 4 p.m. CST game against Georgia set to be televised on ESPN2.
