BATON ROUGE — Despite scoring a season-high 195.300 against Florida last week the LSU gymnastics team dropped four spots to No. 20 in the latest national rankings.
This week marks the final week rankings are based on a team’s high score. Beginning Jan. 26 rankings will be computed using a team’s season average.
Utah tops the team standings for the second straight week with a high score of 197.350. The Utes are trailed by No. 2 Alabama, LSU’s next opponent, who bring a high score of 197.125 to the PMAC on Friday night. SEC foe Florida jumped into the nation’s No. 3 position with a 197.100, while both Iowa and Georgia are tied for fourth with marks of 196.950.
LSU is once again ranked on three of the four individual events. The Tigers are tied for 10th on the vault (49.150), 18th on the floor (49.150) and 24th on the bars (48.775).
Individually, the Tigers have two athletes that have cracked the top 25, in sophomore April Burkholder and freshman Lisa Rennie. Burkholder is currently ranked sixth on the vault (9.950) and 12th in the all-around (39.475), while Rennie sits in the No. 14 position on the uneven bars (9.900).
LSU continues the season Friday when it opens the home schedule against No. 2 Alabama at 7 p.m. in the PMAC.
