BATON ROUGE — LSU’s national champion Lady Tiger track and field program is ranked No. 1 in the country for the second straight week, while the Tigers have jumped two spots to No. 3 in the latest Trackwire 25 polls, released Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers hold a commanding lead over the competition, with 71 points to No. 2 Florida’s 53 points. Texas (47), UCLA (36) and Nebraska (34) round out the women’s top five.

On the men’s side, Arkansas hangs onto the No. 1 spot for the second straight week with 61 points. The Razorbacks are followed by Auburn (40), LSU (36), Stanford (35) and Minnesota (28).

This week marked the first release of the Dandy Dozen, a ranking of the top 12 athletes in each of the NCAA sanctioned events.

LSU had 14 athletes and two relay teams ranked among the top 12. Lady Tigers Lolo Jones and Nicole Toney as well as the men’s 4×400-meter relay team all begin the season with No. 1 rankings in their respective events.

Jones, the defending NCAA champion in the 60-meter hurdles, has earned top billing in that event, while Toney leads the pack in the triple jump.

The LSU track and field team returns to action this Saturday when it opens the home schedule with the Purple Tiger Invitational at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Field events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and running events will follow at 11 a.m.
