ATHENS, Ga. — The two Tigers remaining in the singles bracket of the SEC Indoor Championships were ousted Saturday, but LSU’s No. 33 doubles team of Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley advanced to the tournament quarterfinals.
Fisher and Hazley will face the No. 5 doubles team in the nation in Sunday’s quarterfinals, Georgia’s Bo Hodge and John Isner.
Fisher and Hazley shut out their first opponents, a duo from Tennessee, 8-0. They had a harder time in the round of 16 against South Carolina’s Westman and Eklund. The match went to a tiebreaker before Fisher and Hazley pulled out the 9-8 (3) win.
LSU’s Cory Ross and Danny Bryan had won nine straight doubles matches together before they ran into the nation’s 33rd-ranked team, Florent Girod and Romain Ambert from Mississippi State. The two won their first-round match and brought Girod and Ambert to a tiebreaker. Bryan and Ross lost, 9-8 (3).
In singles play, LSU’s 33rd-ranked Ken Skupski lost his second match of the tournament, 6-4, 6-1, to No. 49 Claes Lindholm of Ole Miss. Ross had won four singles matches in the tournament before Saturday’s 6-0, 6-1 loss to No. 45 Zach Dailey of Vanderbilt.
