BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team placed four members on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the fall semester, it was announced by the league office on Thursday.
It was the second appearance on the honor roll for juniors Beth Cowley, Regan Hood and Rachel Pittman, making it a clean sweep for the LSU class. Freshman Lauren Leaumont also made the honor roll. The sophomore in academic standing completed her first season on the LSU volleyball team after taking a year away from the sport in 2002.
In order to qualify for the honor roll, a student-athlete must have earned either a 3.0 grade point average over the spring, summer and fall of 2003 or have a cumulative g.p.a. greater than 3.0. The student-athlete must also have completed 24 hours at the university. Four of LSU’s seven eligible athletes were named to the honor roll.
A total of 59 volleyball players from the conference schools were among the 467 student-athletes to garner the honors, including 36 from LSU. Georgia led the way with nine volleyball players selected, followed by Alabama with eight, Kentucky with seven and both Mississippi State and South Carolina with six. Arkansas and Tennessee were each represented by five student-athletes, while Auburn had four, Florida had three and Ole Miss finished with two.
