BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A total of 36 LSU student-athletes were named to the 2003-04 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced on Thursday.
The 2003 national championship football team placed 25 student-athletes on the list, including All-SEC performers Matt Mauck, Michael Clayton, Stephen Peterman, and Ben Wilkerson. The women’s soccer team had seven student-athletes make the honor roll, while the volleyball team four student-athletes honored.
Three LSU student-athletes, Chelsea Agar (soccer), Rudy Niswanger (football), and graduate student Rodney Reed (football) had a perfect 4.0 gpa. Reed made the SEC Academic Honor roll for the fourth-straight year while Mauck and Niswanger made the honor roll for the second year in a row. Senior punter Donnie Jones, a finance major, also made the list for the fourth-consecutive year.
The University of Kentucky was first on the list with 53 student-athletes honored while Vanderbilt was a close second with 45 honorees. The University of Alabama had 43 student-athletes named to the list.
The 2003-04 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2003 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.
