ATHENS, Ga. — The 19th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team begins its spring season Thursday with one of the toughest tournaments in college tennis when they travel the Southeastern Conference Indoor Tournament.
Georgia will host the 12 SEC teams, eight of which were ranked in the top 25 in the nation in the most recent ITA poll.
“This is one of the most competitive college tournaments outside of the NCAA Championships and the ITA All-American tournament,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “This is a really good opportunity for us because the next time we see these teams it will be in SEC dual matches.”
Danny Bryan and Cory Ross will begin singles play Thursday in the qualifying round of the tournament. Bryan faces Alex Hume of Kentucky and Ross plays Romain Provenzno of Mississippi State.
LSU’s 33rd-ranked Ken Skupski will lead the Tigers into the tournament on the heels of a 12-3 fall season in which he beat four ranked opponents. Peter Richman and Sebastian Rutka will return to the court after missing the fall with injuries. Richman was second team All-SEC last season.
The SEC, recognized as the most competitive conference in college tennis, features 25 players in the ITA Top 100.
Individual singles and doubles champions will be crowned Monday.
