BATON ROUGE — LSU was ranked 19th in the nation Tuesday when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its first team rankings of 2004.
The Tigers also had several players individually ranked. Ken Skupski beat five opponents in the fall season and was rewarded with a No. 33 national ranking. Skupski and Bryan Fisher were the 20th ranked doubles team. Fisher was also ranked 35th in doubles with Jason Hazley.
The Tigers join eight Southeastern Conference teams ranked in the top 25. The other four SEC teams were ranked in the top 60. Nineteen teams on LSU’s 2004 spring schedule were nationally ranked.
The ITA is the governing body for collegiate tennis and releases rankings periodically throughout the season.
The Tigers begin their spring season Thursday in Athens, Ga. at the SEC Indoor Tournament.
