BATON ROUGE — After scoring a 194.875 in the season opener last Friday, the LSU gymnastics team is ranked 16th in the country in the latest GymInfo poll released Monday.

Utah vaulted into the nation’s No. 1 position scoring a 197.350 in its season opener, while SEC foe Alabama is No. 2 after winning the Super Six Challenge with a 196.725. Nebraska (196.550), Washington (196.450) and UCLA (196.375) round out the nation’s top five.

The SEC dominates the bottom half of the top 10 as Florida sits in the No. 8 position with a 195.950, Arkansas ranks ninth with a 195.575 and Georgia is 10th with a 195.550.

LSU is also listed among the top 25 in each of the four individual events, ranking seventh on the vault (49.025), 15th on the uneven bars (48.775), 16th on the floor (48.900) and 23rd on the beam (48.175).

Individually, sophomore April Burkholder is the only Tiger to land in the nation’s top 20 after one week of competition. The Houston, Texas, native is currently ranked sixth on the vault (9.950) and 18th in the all-around (39.250).

LSU returns to action this week when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., Fri., Jan. 16, for a meet with the eighth-ranked Gators. The meet will be held at UF’s O’Connell Center and is set to begin at 6 p.m.
