BATON ROUGE — LSU freshman running back Justin Vincent is featured on the cover of this week’s regional edition of Sports Illustrated. The magazine, which has the headline “LSU’s the 1” is currently on sale at newsstands across the state of Louisiana.

The SI cover is the first for LSU since Kevin Faulk was featured following the Tigers’ 28-21 win over No. 1-ranked Florida in 1997.

The magazine also features a picture of LSU running back Joseph Addai in its “Leading Off” section as well as a quote from Tiger defensive end Marquise Hill in the “They Said It” area of the publication.

Reporter Tim Layden covered the Nokia Sugar Bowl for SI and wrote a three-page story on LSU’s win over the Sooners.

In addition, SI writer Kelley King picked LSU defensive end Marcus Spears for her 24-player All-Bowl Team. Of Spears, King wrote “On a Tigers’ defensive line that dominated Oklahoma, Spears was special with a sack, a tackle for a loss and an interception that he returned 20 yards for a score.”

King also named Nick Saban as the coach of her All-Bowl Team, saying “unfazed by the BCS controversy, Saban’s Tigers played smart and wreaked havoc on defense to win a piece of the national title.”
