BATON ROUGE — LSU assistant coach Lance Thompson has taken the defensive coordinator’s position at the University of Central Florida, the school announced on Tuesday.
Thompson was one of three coaches named to the UCF staff on Tuesday by head coach George O’Leary.
Thompson, who coached on both sides of the ball for LSU over the last two years, served as LSU’s tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator in 2003. Prior to that, Thompson spent the 2002 season as the Tiger defensive line coach.
“Lance always wanted to be a defensive coach and he made a tremendous sacrifice to coach tight ends and serve as our recruiting coordinator this year,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “He did an outstanding job as our recruiting coordinator. Lance really wanted to be a defensive coordinator and I’m happy that he is getting this opportunity.”
