Saban a Finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award

BATON ROUGE — LSU coach Nick Saban is one of three finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented annually by the Football Writers Association of America to college football’s coach of the year.

Saban, who will attend the awards banquet in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Thursday, is joined by TCU’s Gary Patterson and Navy’s Paul Johnson as the three finalists for the award. The winner of the award will be announced at a 6 p.m. ceremony at The Phoenician Resort.

Saban, already named National Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, is also a finalist for the Bear Bryant Award, which will be handed out next week in Houston.

Michael Watkins, the grandson of legendary coach Eddie Robinson, will present the award on Thursday.

In four years with the Tigers, Saban has guided LSU to a 39-13 overall record, to a pair of Southeastern Conference titles and to the 2003 national championship.
